Description

The Episcopal Church of St Mary, built in 1880, is a simple rectangular building of three bays, with a slightly lower single-bay chancel at the east gable. It is constructed of sneck-coursed grey rubble with bullfaced stone dressings. A gabled entrance porch has a shallow pointed-headed entrance with double leaf doors. There are two windows in both the north and south elevations, each divided into three cusped lights by painted wooden mullions. A similar two-light window is present in the south wall of the chancel; a large, shallow pointed-headed window with similar mullions features in the west gable. A square bellcote sits atop the west gable, supported on a slated platform, with a slender pyramidal slated spire rising from a cusped wooden frame and terminating in an apex cross. A vestry is located at the northeast. The roof is covered in Ballachulish slate.

Inside, the walls are of plain rubble, and a high pointed-headed arch divides the nave from the chancel. A braced rafter roof and stained glass windows are notable features. A polished red granite font, dated 1887, is accompanied by a carved wooden cover from 1933. A late 19th-century octagonal, panelled wooden pulpit is present. The chancel is partially panelled and features a gilded reredos; carved and panelled choir stalls and pews, all appearing to date from the earlier 20th century, are also included, featuring low relief carving and linenfold panelling. A brass eagle lectern is also present.

A former school, now used as a church hall, dates to the late 19th century. This single-storey building is tall and has a three-bay south front linked to the church by a porch, with a single-storey lean-to at the west gable. It is constructed of bullfaced grey tooled rubble. A gabled centre bay features a larger window with multi-pane glazing, and the roof has a pair of triangular vents with cusped detailing. The building has a slate roof. A simple, roughly coped enclosing wall surrounds the church and former school. The church has been in continuous use as an ecclesiastical building. The panelled pews and other carved wooden fittings within the church are of excellent quality.
