Inland Revenue Office, 1-3 Young Street, Inverness

The Inland Revenue Office, located at 1-3 Young Street in Inverness, was designed by Alexander Ross and built between 1883 and 1884. This baronial-style building is constructed from snecked rubble and features three storeys, along with a four-storey corner block. The ground floor includes shopfronts, with the original shopfront located at No 3 Ness Walk.

The front facing Nos 1-6 Ness Walk has four bays, with bipartite windows on the first floor. The second floor features tripartite windows for the first and second windows, both topped with gablets, while the second window has a crowstepped gable with a chimney. The third and fourth windows have gableted dormerheads.

The corner block has a two-bay front facing Ness Walk, with third-floor windows that also have gableted dormerheads. The canted corner is corbelled to a square at the second floor, supported by a granite column at the angle. On the Young Street side, the third floor features a crowstepped gablet with an oriel window and a window with a gabletted dormerhead.

No 3 Young Street has a two-bay front, with the right first-floor window being bipartite and the second-floor windows featuring gabletted dormerheads.
