Gate Turrets And Gates, Flagstaff Lodge, Dunrobin Castle

This is a mid-19th century entrance lodge complex of imposing scale, constructed from tooled coursed rubble with polished ashlar dressings. The complex is centred on a large, two-storey drum tower dwelling. The tower features a deep, corbelled parapet with crenellations and a wallhead stack. A single-storey, single-bay extension with a shallow piended roof is located at the rear, and is linked to the tower by a rear entrance porch.

Opposite the driveway entrance, a single-stage drum tower of similar design is paired with the first tower. Four round gate piers, constructed from ashlar on square bases, stand between the towers. These piers are capped with square caps and have attenuated polished red granite ball finials. The complex includes a pair of cast-iron carriage gates with matching flanking pedestrian gates, all decorated with spearheads.

Coursed, squared rubble flanking walls are finished with shaped ashlar copes.
