Description
Flagstaff Lodge, at Dunrobin Castle, is an imposing entrance lodge complex dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of tooled coursed rubble with polished ashlar dressings. The main element is a large, two-storey drum tower dwelling, topped with a deep, corbelled, and crenellated parapet, and a wallhead stack. A single-storey, single-bay extension with a shallow piended roof is linked to the tower by a rear entrance porch. A similar single-stage drum tower stands opposite the drive entrance. Four round ashlar gate piers, set on square bases with square caps and attenuated polished red granite ball finials, stand between the towers. The carriage gates, and matching pedestrian gates, are cast iron with spearhead decoration. Coursed rubble flanking walls are topped with shaped ashlar copes.
