Description

Achnashellach Lodge is a two-story shooting lodge dating to around 1870. It has an asymmetrical, rambling design and a three-bay frontage facing south. The entrance is located on the west side, sheltered by a gabled porte cochere that supports a gabled bay containing a first-floor room above. The lodge is constructed from coursed grey rubble with contrasting tooled red sandstone dressings. The south frontage is asymmetrical, with a recessed central bay linked by a first-floor balcony featuring a cast-iron balustrade. It includes canted bay windows at ground floor level on both the left (west) and right sides, extending the full height of the building. Small, dormer windows are present, and a long extension runs along the rear (north) with swept dormers. Windows have 3, 4, and 6 panes of glass. Some gables are jerkin-headed. Corniced end and wallhead stacks rise from the roof, which is covered in slate.

Inside, a wide staircase is notable for its decorative cast-iron balustrade. The lodge was depicted on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1877 and was referred to in 1884 as a shooting lodge owned by Ivor Bertie-Guest, 1st Baron Wimborne.
