Description

16 Sinclair Terrace in Wick is a semi-detached pair of Victorian houses, built in 1887. The building is two stories high with an attic and features three bays. It has an elaborate nepus gable at the center and is constructed from squared and snecked coursed Caithness stone slabs, with yellow ashlar sandstone used for the margins around openings and for detailing.

The northwest elevation is symmetrical, featuring paired doors at the center with a consoled, blocked parapet above. Flanking the doors are bipartite windows with stone mullions. On the first floor, there are canted oriel windows that are bracketed and fan-corbelled, positioned beside a central bipartite window. The attic storey has canted dormers on either side of the nepus gable, which have tapered sides and a bipartite semicircular-arched window. There is a cill-height string course and an architrave above that includes an incised shield at the center, all culminating in a pediment supported by a blind arcade between square-plan stacks.

The southeast (rear) elevation was not visible in 2001, while both the northeast and southwest side elevations are blind gable ends. The windows at No 16 are plate glass sash and case, while No 15 has double-glazing. The roof is covered with concrete tiles, and the building features coped skews and gable stacks. Decorative patterned cast-iron rainwater goods with hoopers are also present. The interiors were not seen in 2001.
