Description
The Kinlochleven Village Water Supply Dam, built around 1909, is a mass concrete gravity dam that measures 440 feet long and 55 feet high, although it was noted in 1911 that it was only half this height at that time. The dam features a 5:1 mass concrete structure with a 4:1 fine concrete face and has a pronounced batter to the north, where modern railings have been added in part. Just south of the dam, there is a 24-inch diameter cast-iron upstand tower, which includes the original railed platform and sluice mechanism. The project involved key figures such as P W Meik, who was the chief engineer, Alfred H Roberts as the resident engineer, Sir W Murray Morrison as the manager and technical advisor, and Sir John Jackson Ltd as the principal contractor.
