Description

The Rhian Bridge, built around 1815 by Thomas Telford, is a single-span rubble bridge carrying the Parliamentary Road (A836) from Bonar Bridge to Tongue. The bridge crosses the Abhainn Sgeamhaidh Burn. It is constructed from rubble, with a dressed rubble arch ring and parapet cope. The bridge features shallow end buttresses and splayed approaches. Construction was completed by 1819. Further information can be found in A.R.B. Haldane’s New Ways Through the Glens (1962), pages 139, 188, and 195.
