Description

Vagastie Bridge, also known as Allt a' Chraisg Bridge, is a single-span rubble bridge constructed around 1815 by Thomas Telford. The bridge forms part of the parliamentary road built between Bonar Bridge and Tongue via Altnaharra, completed by 1819, and follows the route of the A836. It is built of rubble with a dressed rubble arch ring, featuring shallow buttresses and a dressed rubble parapet with splayed approaches. A.R.B. Haldane’s “New Ways Through the Glens” (1962) provides further details on pages 139, 188, and 195.
