Description

The Altnaharra Bridge, dating to circa 1815, is a three-span rubble bridge constructed as part of the parliamentary road between Bonar Bridge and Tongue via Altnaharra, completed by 1819. The bridge carries the A836 road. It is built of rubble with dressed rubble arch rings, the central arch being slightly larger than the flanking arches. The bridge features triangular cutwaters and a dressed rubble parapet with shallow buttresses and splayed approaches.
