Description
This is a circa 1845 church hall, located on Ord Place, Lairg. Originally constructed as a single-storey, south-facing building, it began as a three-bay house with a central doorway on its eastern facade. Later, a three-bay school was added, with an entrance in the east gable. A subsequent porch now links the hall to the church, masking the original school entrance. The building is constructed of harl-pointed rubble with tooled stone dressings. The windows have regular placement and feature simple wooden transoms, mullions, and lattice-pane glazing. Coped end stacks rise from the slate roof. The design of the hall is comparable to that of the former Free Church school and teacher's house in Golspie. The Imperial Gazetteer of Scotland (circa 1858) mentions the building on page 281.
