Description
This is an early 19th century slaughter house, built as an oblong single-story building with bowed ends and a bowed piended roof. The building is constructed of cherry pointed rubble with ashlar dressings. The south-facing elevation has two wide doors positioned at the angle of the bow, each with a bull's eye vent above. Two similar vents are located on the north wall. A dormer window was later inserted into the north side, and this is now incorporated into a later steading. The original doors have been blocked and windows inserted, and a central door was added at a later date. The roof is slate and has a stone ridge. The building was possibly used as a slaughter house and is said to have later been used as dog kennels. A ceiling was inserted, and the interior was subsequently re-used as a farm office or grieve’s room. The statutory address is Redcastle Steading Oval Building by Stable Square.
