Description
This is a later 19th-century bank building with a manager's dwelling, situated on Beauly’s High Street. The building’s east-facing elevation fronts the main street, while the north return faces Croyard Road and the south return provides access to the garden. It is constructed from coursed red rubble, with contrasting, tooled sandstone ashlar dressings.
At the northeast corner is an angled bay containing the main entrance, which is sheltered by a round, keystoned head featuring a carved tympanum bearing the bank’s name and crest. Ground floor windows are round-headed, with matching keystone detailing, and connected by a continuous band course around the building. The east front has two outer paired bays, with tripartite window arrangements on the first floor. The return elevation to Croyard Road has a pedimented design incorporating a large, central, first-floor tripartite window.
The south return includes a central entrance, which is partially concealed by a substantial, square, single-storey porch with a side entrance and a round-headed window featuring a keystone. A shallow, advanced, and pedimented bay is present. The windows are fitted with four-pane glazing, and there are corniced stacks rising above the roofline. The roof is covered with piended platform slate. A wing extends to the rear of the main building.
A low retaining wall with spearhead railings fronts the building. The building appears on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1872.
