Description
This is an early 19th century, two-storey and attic house, originally with three bays arranged symmetrically. Later, a pair of shops were incorporated into the ground floor, flanking the central entrance. The house is constructed of coursed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. Each shop front was originally designed with a central door and apron windows on either side; the doors have now been replaced with windows. The extreme southern bay window now serves as a doorway. The first floor windows are regularly spaced, and the roof is slate covered, punctuated by three piended dormers. The windows are predominantly 12-pane sashes. The building features coped end stacks. A lower, two-storey wing extends to the rear. J Robertson’s General View of the Agriculture of the County of Inverness (1808), page 70, provides additional historical context.
