Description
The site includes an early 19th century barn and a small, U-plan steading. The barn is a cruck-framed hay, threshing, and winnowing barn constructed of coursed rubble with rounded corners. It features louvred side and gable vents and measures approximately 60 feet by 15 feet. Three pairs of scarfed crucks remain, each jointed at wallhead height and secured with three wooden pegs and one iron bolt; each cruck blade also has an iron spur at wallhead height. The roof is corrugated iron. A raised circular horse-walk is located at the east side of the barn. The steading is a single storey of varying heights, built of harled rubble with a slate roof. The fourth side is enclosed by a rubble wall. The barn and steading were built by Mr M'Donnell of Barrisdale (Glenelg Parish), who spent £700 on their construction at Auchtertyre.
