Description

These gate piers, retaining walls, railings, and gates probably date from 1895 and were likely designed by Ross and Macbeth. The pair of gate piers are constructed of panelled ashlar stone and feature corniced caps topped with carved stone bears as finials. Low retaining walls built of rubble stone with an ashlar coping run alongside the piers, supporting spearhead cast-iron railings and end piers that have ball finials. There are also a pair of ornate carriage gates made of cast and wrought iron. The carved stone bears are said to have originated from Ardross House in Ross and Cromarty and were taken to Gledfield House by Sir Kenneth Matheson.
