Description

The Coach House at Beaufort Castle dates from the earlier to mid 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It is a two-storey building with an attic and features a nine-bay range along with an ancillary structure to the southeast. The southwest elevation is constructed of coursed red sandstone, while the remainder of the building is made of rubble, with polished long and short dressings, projecting cills, and raised margins.

The principal elevation on the southwest is asymmetrical, featuring a window in the central bay at ground level. To the left, there is a two-leaf sliding boarded timber machinery door, with the lintel of a former window opening above it. The penultimate bay to the left has a boarded timber door, flanked by single windows on either side. Above these, there are boarded timber openings on the first floor and rooflights in the attic. The fourth bay from the left contains single windows on both the ground and first floors. To the right, there is a harled gableted porch that projects at ground level, which includes a boarded timber door and a window on the first floor, with single windows in the flanking bays.

The southeast elevation is harled and features a gabled design. The northeast elevation is also asymmetrical, with a harled lean-to addition at ground level and near-regular fenestration on the first floor. The northwest elevation is gabled.

Inside, there is a timber staircase with timber balusters, and some skirting boards, architraves, and boarded and panelled doors remain intact.

The ancillary structure is a single-storey gabled outbuilding located to the southwest. It is built of random rubble with long and short red sandstone dressings, featuring a two-leaf boarded timber door on the northwest side, flanked by window openings. A timber canopy extends to the east, and the roof is corrugated with inset clear plastic sections.
