Description

This is a rectangular building dated 1786, originally a West Parish Church. The south (front) elevation is harled, with pointed gables and tooled ashlar margins, while the rear is also harled. The symmetrical front has six bays and features square-headed doorways in the outer bays. These doorways have double plank doors fitted with long, decorated blacksmith’s hinges, sneck latches, and large keyholes. Above the doorways are tall, round-headed windows with keystones. Four similar windows are located in the centre of the building, though some have blocked imposts. Smaller gallery windows are incorporated into the east and west gables—all with original multi-pane glazing. Two long, later 19th-century round-headed windows are present on the rear elevation, featuring matching architraves with geometrical tracery and leaded glazing.

A finialled bellcote is positioned at the apex of the west gable, while a shaped stone finial sits atop the east gable. The front skewputts are dated 1786. The building is topped with a slate roof.

The interior was remodelled in the later 19th century. A gallery was removed from the west end, and the ceiling is supported by engaged cluster columns and later 19th-century bracing. The interior is currently empty, with all fittings removed.

The church is surrounded by a rubble-walled burial ground. An ashlar drinking fountain, dated 1919, is inset into the west side of the burial ground. A pedestrian entrance is flanked by a pair of square ashlar gate piers with rounded caps, while a pair of late 19th-century rusticated ashlar gate piers with decorative caps mark the burial ground boundary. The building is no longer used as an ecclesiastical building.
