Description
The walled garden is a feature of Fassfern House, with an early to mid-18th century core and significant 19th century additions and alterations. A two-storey, south-facing range forms the principal structure, divided into three blocks of three bays, with a projecting rear wing. The central block is the oldest part of this range, exhibiting a symmetrical front with narrow windows. The central doorway has been blocked and replaced with a window. Small rear windows, two on each floor, are also present.
A slightly higher two-storey range extends to the west (left) and incorporates a rear wing, while a single-storey and attic portion stretches to the east (right). The windows are mostly 12-pane sashes, and the roof is slate-covered, with renewed stacks.
Behind the house are two long, single-storey steading ranges that are set at right angles to one another and are also harled. A rubble-walled garden occupies the rear area.
Historical records indicate that Prince Charles Edward Stuart spent one night at Fassifern (previously known as Fassifern) during the Jacobite rising of 1745.
