Dovecot And Burial Vault, Uppertown, Stroma

The Dovecot and Burial Vault at Uppertown, Stroma, is a dovecote dated 1677. It is a square, roofless structure made of grey rubble, featuring pink sandstone ashlar dressings. The building has two storeys, with a vaulted chamber on the ground floor that has a central entrance. The first storey contains the dovecote, which has an entrance on the east elevation that is accessible only by ladder. Each entrance is adorned with moulded doorpieces, and there is a worn plaque above the ground floor entrance. The building showcases sandstone long and short detailing at the corners, and rat courses that encircle it at mid-height and below the wallhead. There are four flightholes on the west elevation and two on the south.

Adjacent to the dovecote is a burial ground, which is a simple enclosure made of rubble walls topped with rounded dressed rubble cope. It features a plain gate at the pedestrian entrance.
