Description
East Cottage, also known as Mrs Mackay’s House, is a circa 1870 terrace of three south-facing houses. These are linked to Tigh a Mhuilin to the west. The two houses to the east are internally connected as a single dwelling, while the westernmost house shares an internal connection with Tigh a Mhuilin.
Mrs Mackay's House comprises three single-storey houses with an attic, and three bays. The construction is rubble with tooled dressings. Each house has a central door, and three gabletted dormers rise through the wallheads. The windows are 4-pane sash windows, and there are ridge and end stacks. The roof is slate-covered. A modern single-storey, single-bay addition has been made to the east gable.
Tigh a Mhuilinn, a late 19th century house with a slightly higher roofline, is also a single-storey and attic property, with three bays. It is built of rubble with cast concrete dressings. A central door is flanked by bipartites (two panes of glass divided by a central mullion). Two bipartite dormers rise through the wallhead and are finished with bargeboarded gables. The windows are 2-pane sash windows, and it has end stacks. The roof is slate.
Both properties form part of a south-facing estate village terrace overlooking the Dunbeath Water and have no street numbers.
