Description
This is a manse, built in 1828 by Thomas Telford. It is a two-storey, three-bay house constructed of coursed rubble with tooled dressings. The manse features single-storey, piended porches with shaped parapets on its east and west gables, and a window at both ground and first floor levels on the east gable, added in 1952. Some windows contain lying pane glazing. An outshot extends from the rear, and there are end stacks with a slate roof. The manse is similar in design to Hallin Manse. References can be found in FASTI ECCLESIAE SCOTICANAE, volumes vii, page 181, and ix, page 689, and in Howard Colvin’s A BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY OF BRITISH ARCHITECTS, page 821.
