Graveyard, Kilmuir Church, Skye

The graveyard surrounding Kilmuir Church dates back to the site of a former 16th-century parish church and is enclosed by a simple stone and lime wall built in 1832. Within the graveyard are various burial enclosures, including one belonging to the Maclean family, which features a moulded and lugged doorpiece dated 1793. A monument to Flora Macdonald, created by D Davidson of Inverness, was erected in 1861 over her tomb, following instructions from her great-grandson, Captain John Macleod. The tomb was originally within the Macdonalds of Kingsborough enclosure. There are also two late medieval carved tomb slabs, one depicting the effigy of a knight. Two of the medieval tomb slabs are designated as Scheduled Monuments.
