Description
East Lodge to Guisachan House is a single-storey, three-bay dwelling with an attic, built in 1859-60 by A & W Reid of Elgin and Inverness. Constructed of rubble with contrasting tooled, red ashlar dressings, the house is cruciform in plan. The prominent, projecting gable facing southeast has a corniced tripartite window on the ground floor, and a small, round-headed window above, featuring keystones to the arch with blocked imposts. Lower, slightly set-back wings flank the central gable, containing the entrance on the right and a narrow window on the left. Similar tripartite windows, each with a small, keystoned oculus above, are found in the return gables to the northeast and southwest. The rear gable mirrors the front, with a ground floor window and a central, round-headed window. The principal windows have bracketed cills, and contain lattice-pane casements. Overhanging eaves briefly return across the gables. A prominent ridge line is marked by a battery of four tall, octagonal, corniced flues rising above the slate roofs. A coped walled service area is situated at the rear. Contract plans are dated 23 March 1959. The former mansion house to which the lodge belonged is now ruinous, having lost its roof during the 1930s. Further details are held at the Moray District Record Office, Forres, under reference DAWP 815/10-11.
