9 Janet Street, Thurso

10 Janet Street in Thurso is a pair of mirrored dwellings built in the late 19th century. Each house is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The exterior features stugged coursed rubble with polished ashlar dressings and some contrasting red sandstone detailing, while the flanks are made of rubble. Each house has a gabled and advanced outer bay that includes a canted bay window on the ground floor, which rises into a slightly smaller canted window with segmental headed lights. The entrance is located in the central bay and is flanked by bipartite windows, linked to the doorway by a moulded string and lintel course. On the first floor, paired windows break the wallhead into bargeboarded dormers, and the glazing consists of two panes. The gable bargeboards, along with corniced end and ridge stacks, add to the architectural detail, while decorative cast-iron finials and cresting adorn the slate roofs. To the southwest, there is a walled service court featuring decorative cast-iron cresting above the garage entrance.
