Description

The presbytery dates from 1864 and is likely the work of Joseph Hansom. It is a two-storey, three-bay asymmetrical dwelling constructed of red rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The right bay features a gabled porch set in a re-entrant angle. The ground and first floors contain tripartite windows. A canted bay window is positioned on the South garden front. The windows are fitted with two-pane glazing, and there are coped end stacks and decorative bargeboards. The roof is slate.

The church is a tall, first-pointed Gothic building facing east and west, comprising a nave, chancel, and a north aisle. It is built of coursed red rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The west gable features a central, pointed-headed entrance, above which are paired, narrow windows linked by a continuous hoodmould. A wheel window with plate tracery sits above the entrance, flanked by angle buttresses. The north and south flanks each have five buttressed bays, punctuated by off-centre entrances and Y-traceried windows. A gabled chancel is located at the east end, with transepts on the south side, which link to the presbytery. The church has mainly leaded-pane glazing and a bellcote at the east gable of the nave. Slate roofs complete the exterior.

Inside, the north side features an arcade and a small Lady Chapel to the east. A tall Gothic arch frames the chancel, incorporating nailhead detailing, and a marble altar is present. The interior also includes a panelled pine dado and pine pews, along with a gallery at the west end. The ceiling is timber.

The church, burial ground and presbytery are enclosed by a harled rubble wall with a roughly crenellated cope. The church is an ecclesiastical building in ecclesiastical use.
