Walled Garden, Kinsteary House

The Walled Garden at Kinsteary House is a single-storey and attic "cottage" dwelling, dated 1792. It features a distinctive five-bay north-facing facade and a U-plan garden court to the south. The building is constructed from Kinsteary pink granite rubble, accented with tooled ashlar sandstone dressings. The centre bay projects and has a gabled design with a lunette and a wrought-iron weather vane dated but missing its pointers. The ground floor includes a central Venetian window, with similar windows in the flanking recessed bays and tripartite windows in the further recessed outer bays. There are also two small piended dormers and a mix of intersecting and multi-pane glazing.

The south-facing U-plan garden court is enclosed on the east and west by domestic and office ranges, and it is closed on the south side by a low wall topped with cast-iron railings. The north and east elevations of the inner court are connected by continuous glazed lean-to extensions. The building features corniced ridge and wallhead stacks, and a piended slate roof.

Inside, the property retains original six-panelled doors and simple coved ceilings. The large walled garden is surrounded by rubble walls with ashlar copes and is lined with brick on the south and west elevations.
