Description

Dated 1825. 2-storey, 3-bay house with single storey, single

bay wings slightly set back from S front and projecting

at rear (street) to form shallow U-plan court. Rubble

with tooled and polished ashlar dressings. Centre

corniced entrance in S (garden) front with date stone above

and renewed panelled door; large flanking windows; smaller

1st floor windows.

REAR: entrances mirrored in inner faces of projecting

wings; regular 1st floor fenestration, some re-sizing of

ground floor windows.

12-paned glazing in main house, 16-pane in 10A, modern

glazing in E wing windows.

Coped end stacks; slate roof with modern roof lights, piended

slate roofs to wings.

INTERIOR: centre stairwell with plain balustrade; simple

ceiling cornices; beaded panelled doors and window shutters;

deep moulded skirting boards in parlour (E); overmantel

and simple panelled chimneypiece with angle roundels

(probably painted slate chimneypiece) with embossed

cast-iron grate.

GARDEN WALLS: garden extends S of house enclosed by high

rubble walls; centre pedestrian gateway closed by spearhead

cast-iron gate.
