Description
La Scala Picture House is a corner-site tenement block located at 60-66 Academy Street in Inverness. It was designed by the practice of William Macintosh, which moved into the building upon its completion in April 1898. As of 1996, the building is occupied by the successor practice of Thomas Munro and Co. The architectural style is Free Renaissance and elaborate, featuring dressed red ashlar, mostly painted at the ground level, and framed construction. The building stands three storeys tall with an attic and includes two-storeyed window bays set between stanchions. It has plate glass sash and case windows, a red-tiled and stone-dormered mansard roof, and a tourelle-like lantern over an oriel-windowed corner. The elevations are otherwise symmetrical, with five bays and a three-bay flank facing Strothers Lane. Inside, the architects' office remains largely unchanged.
