Description
These are late 18th century cottages, originally three single-story, two-bay dwellings linked at angles to create an east-facing rear courtyard. The cottages are built of rubble and were once whitewashed on the north elevation. A piended extension with three modern windows has been added to the north gable. Most windows retain their original nine-pane glazing. The cottages have crowstepped gables, corniced end stacks, and a heavy stone slate roof, with some areas re-roofed using dark, simulated slate tiles. A coped drystone garden wall surrounds the property, along with a small, single-story rubble outbuilding.
It is believed the cottages were formerly a “change house,” a type of inn. They are now used as two dwellings, with only one currently occupied. These buildings appear on a late 18th century map of the area.
