Description
Strathsteven Cottage, also known as Strathsteven Lodge, is an estate lodge dated 1864. It is a single-story building with an attic, facing south. The construction is of tooled rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The central bay projects, with a gabled two-story design. The ground floor contains the entrance, and the first floor is slightly jettied, featuring a datestone and a bipartite window. There are two gabled dormers with sliding sash windows, which are mostly 12-pane. The roof is grey slate, banded with green Cumbrian slates, and features projecting eaves, as well as coped end stacks. The lodge is built in the Sutherland estate style, a characteristic further defined by the presence of sliding sash windows, a feature also found in other estate dwellings.
