Description

Alexander Skirving 1881. Greek detailing. 2-storey, basement, and attic terrace of 5 houses, each 2 unequal bays; end houses advanced. Painted polished ashlar, droved at basement, ground floor channelled. Sash and case windows in architraves.

Shouldered pilastered entrances each at head of short flight of steps oversailing basement area, tripartite windows to right or left repeated above with pilaster mullions. 1st floor cill band, main cornice with simple disc freeze. Blocking course raised to die parapet at ends. Flat roofed tripartite dormers. Axial stacks, slate roof.

Cast-iron parapet railings and gates to basemetn service entry.

Interior: No 59 carved timber stair balusters and newel.

Marble chimneypieces. Rear basement room wood-panelled, carved timber chimneypiece, Delft-tiled fireplace.
