Description

The building at 11, 21, 25, and 27 Canal Bank, located along the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow, dates from around 1830 and has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, seven-bay structure originally designed as stables, which has since been converted into a warehouse. The exterior is constructed from sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring segmentally arched openings and raised margins. There are blind and blocked doors and windows present.

On the southeast elevation, the central bay is advanced and features a pediment, with a doorway at ground level and a hayloft door above. There is a blind oculus in the tympanum. The flanking bays originally had regular fenestration on each floor, but regrettably, machinery doors have been added between the bays to the left of center and in the outer right bays. The rear elevation is largely blank.

There are later single-storey additions on the side elevations. The building has corniced ashlar end stacks and a grey slate piended roof.

The bank openings date from the 19th century and lead to the quay. They are made of coursed bull-faced sandstone, featuring a segmental arch set in the bank with voussoirs, coping, and flanking walls. There is also a pedestrian entrance flanking to the left, similarly set in the bank.
