Former Possil School Gymnasium, 426 Balmore Road, Glasgow

The Former Possil School Gymnasium, located at 426 Balmore Road in Glasgow, was designed by James Taylor Thomson and built between 1930 and 1934. This single-storey and basement structure features a T-plan layout with 10 bays. It is constructed of red brick, accented by slightly advanced ashlar end bays, a base course, a cill course, and detailing at the top and bottom of the parapet. The building has recessed openings and a flat roof.

The west elevation is symmetrical with 10 bays and includes a central canted projecting flagpole holder at the parapet. The east elevation, which serves as the entrance, has 9 bays and features a central 3-bay projecting flat-roofed section with an entrance that has a slightly advanced doorpiece breaking the parapet. The windows are predominantly 6-pane timber, with the upper sections opening inward; some of these windows are now boarded up.

Inside, the entrance hallway leads to two large gymnasiums that have timber floors.

Surrounding the property are gatepiers and boundary walls. The stepped brick boundary wall has gabled ashlar coping on the north, south, west, and east sides, with the most complete sections on the west and south. Some areas feature railings. To the west, there is a pair of slender square brick gatepiers topped with flat ashlar caps. To the south, there are two pairs of brick gatepiers, with the left pair being tall and square with flat ashlar caps, while the right pair is shorter with an entrance that has been infilled with brick.
