Description

A G Sydney Mitchell (Edinburgh), 1887. Free Renaissance 4-storey commercial building; 5-storey octagonal corner; with dormered dome and lantern. Later entrance and addition in Buchanan Street for bank.

Ashlar. 2 bays to Buchanan Street, 1 bay to Gordon Street set in channelled pilaster strips; arched ground floor. Single overall pediment 2nd floor; eaves gallery with red shafted colonettes; balustraded parapet. Open octagonal entrance vestibule on corner, ribbed vault, angled shafts and sculpted lunettes; wrought-iron lamp

suspended from boss; 3 double, iron-work gates with elaborate overthrows.
