Description

Group of buildings of various dates arranged about courtyard, the northmost, and probably earliest - with 16(44?) - datestone, all part of Darnley Mill, and all much altered in 19th century. Rubble-built ranges, some painted, with ashlar dressings; slate roofs. N RANGE: datestone is re-set, but building may nonetheless be 17th century: crow-stepped; rectangular-plan; 3-bay W front, openings enlarged in 19th century; conical-roofed circular turret at NE angle; RANGES AT S are single storey to court and 19th century in appearance, but underbuilt above mill lade contains earlier (17th/18th century) walling at lowest level; HOUSE at W end of court, beside road, is much altered; 2 storeys, asymmetrical with wing to right of front elevation.
