Description

2-16 Trongate in Glasgow is a five-storey neo-classical building designed by A Graham Henderson in 1913 and built in 1922. It features a curving elevation with a polished ashlar facade and polished grey granite at the ground floor. The building has a total of five bays, with slightly wider end bays and a single wide angled corner bay on the south side. There is an angled bay on the left and a single bay facing Trongate, with the ground floor housing a bank entrance.

The windows on the ground and first floors are tripartite, featuring timber mullions and transoms, all with small-pane glazing. The second and third floors continue the curving main elevation and the wide flanking single bays, showcasing giant Ionic columns in antis. The windows on the second floor are consoled and corniced. Above the third floor, there is an eaves cornice with a cast-iron balustrade supported by die piers. The fourth (attic) floor has wide windows and a deep parapet topped with an ashlar die balustrade and urn finials. The angled bay includes a wrought-iron balcony at the second niche of the fourth floor. Additionally, there is a moulded cornice above the first floor.
