Description

This building, located at 15, 17, 19, 21, and 25 High Street in Glasgow, dates from around 1900 and was part of the City Improvement Trust initiative. It is a large polished red sandstone block featuring tenements above shops. The structure is five stories tall with long, regular elevations, displaying 12 bays facing High Street and 7 bays facing Bell Street, along with a bowed three-window bay at the corner.

The ground floor consists of shops, while the first floor showcases channelled masonry, with polished stone above. The windows are primarily tripartite, featuring sash and case designs with two-pane plate glass glazing. A bold keystone is positioned over the central light on the first floor, and the fourth floor features basket-arched windows. Giant order pilasters separate the bays on the second to fourth floors.

In the bowed bay, aedicular windows are flanked by single windows, and there are raised block pediments adorned with festoon details at the parapet. The High Street elevation includes a narrow single bay that provides a central emphasis, topped with a raised pediment at the eaves. The building is finished with a cornice over the ground floor and at the second cills, along with a heavy mutule eaves cornice and a deep plain parapet.
