Description

Circa 1900 City Improvement Trust. Large polished red sandstone

block with tenements over shops. 5-storey, long regular

elevations with 12-bay to High Street, 7-bay to Bell Street,

bowed 3-window bay at angle.

Shops to ground, channelled masonry to 1st, polished above.

Mainly tripartite windows, sash and case with 2-pane,

plate glass glazing, bold keystone over central light at 1st, basket-arched at 4th. Giant order pilasters separate bays

2nd-4th floor. To bowed bay, aedicular windows flanked by

single windows, raised block pediments with festoon detail

to parapet. To High Street elevation, narrow single bay

gives central emphasis, raised pediment at eaves.

Cornice over ground and at 2nd cills. Heavy mutule eaves

cornice, deep plain parapet.
