Description

Robert Turnbull (Thomson and Turnbull) circa 1880.

Thomsonesque 2-storey and attic villa of square plan with

full-height projecting service wing to rear. Upper floors

and roof destroyed by fire circa 1983. Roof re-instated 1987.

3-bay polished ashlar facade with projecting square windows

to ground with pilaster mullions, these flank portico with

Thomsonesque columns in antis tripartite doorway with

double-leaf doors. Projecting windows and columns support

full-width balcony with antefixae and cast-iron railings.

At 1st, 3 bipartite windows with pilaster mullions, plate

glass sashes. Band course at 1st floor cills, string course

at eaves. Stugged ashlar flanks and rear with single and

bipartite windows.

Corniced wallhead stacks.

INTERIOR: Most ground floor plasterwork survives; elongated

egg and dart cornices. Ionic screen to hall, staircase

destroyed by fire. Elaborate carved timber doorcases

with block pediments.

Low stugged ashlar wall with coping. Pair of elaborate

painted ashlar gatepiers, corniced with ball finials.
