Description
Scotstoun East Church, built in 1906 by H E Clifford with a hall added to the west in 1902 by J B Wilson, is a Perpendicular-style church located at 70-78 Earlbank Avenue in Glasgow. The building features squared red rubble with polished ashlar dressings. Its tall buttressed gable end faces Earlbank Avenue, adorned with buttresses that have gable finials, a large reticulated traceried south window, and an apex cross finial. There is an unfinished tower at the southeast angles, with a pointed arched main entrance at the base of the tower and a lower session room range to the west. The east-facing side has three gabled windows with simplified tracery.
The rear hall, which has a gable facing Ormiston Avenue, includes buttresses with set-offs and blind arcaded top sections, along with a traceried three-light window similar to the south window. An Art Nouveau ventilator is present, as well as simple bipartite rear windows. Access to the hall is through a low link between the church and hall, featuring cusped blind detail at the lintel. Inside, the church has a nave with a single-sided aisle, galleries supported by cast-iron columns at the ends and over the aisle, and an open timber roof.
