Description

James Smith of Glasgow "Honorary Architect", who died December 1863, building completed probably by Melvin and Leiper. Gothic church with flank elevation to street with twin gabled transept, chancel and vestry ranges further to right (W); E gable also architecturally treated, main door with arcaded flanking vestibule lights, traceried window over; square SE corner carried upwards as tower with stone spirelet raised on open arcade above octagonal clock stage. Stone cleaned yellow ashlar; slate roof. Modern link to HALLS at E L-plan front with polygonal entrance tower (reduced in height) in re-entrant angle, like a 17th century tower, but gothic; and and 2 storeys rock faced ashlar; slate roofs.
