Description
The Church of Scotland Parish Church in Edderton, built in 1842, showcases the Gothic style of architect James Smith. The church features an impressive facade made of tooled coursed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. At the center is a projecting tower that serves as the Minister's porch, which has a square base and a central door. The tower includes two octagonal stages, with a pointed-headed Y-traceried window above and louvred windows in the second stage, culminating in a bellcast slated octagonal spire topped with a weathervane.
Flanking the tower are two large 3-light Gothic windows with traceries and mullions, along with shallow projecting gallery stairwells in the outer bays. The outer bays also contain pointed-headed windows on the ground and first floors, each bay accented by wide angle pilasters, angle pinnacles, and central pediments featuring a trefoil motif. The church has 3-bay flanks with central projecting porches, which are flanked by blocked Gothic windows, with three similarly shaped windows above. The windows have intersecting astragals, and the roof is a piended platform covered in slate.
Inside, the church has a five-sided panelled galleried interior, with the gallery supported by fluted cast-iron columns. The pulpit has been replaced and lowered, but the original ogee octagonal sounding board remains, adorned with delicate Adamesque "stucco duro" detailing on the frieze.
