Description

Circa 1875. 4-storey and attic richly detailed classical

commercial building with modern shops at ground floor.

Polished ashlar. Broken segmental pedimented doorpiece

on massive sculpted consoles to entry at No 21, sculpted

tympanum, double-leaf panelled door, fanlight; single

console also at southmost bay. All windows plate-glass,

sash and case. 1st floor sculpted swag frieze. 2nd floor

1/3 fluted Roman Ionic pilastrade with disc necking,

widened to piers at outer bays; shell-headed pilastered

windows with moulded cills and aprons; dentil cornice.

3rd floor: Corinthian pilastrade with piers in outer

bays; frieze, dentil and modillion cornice. Attic with 5

console pedimented wallhead dormers divided by 6

panelled and corniced single flue stacks; balustraded

parapet in outer bays surmounted by sculpted urns;

hipped, slate roof with finials.
