Description
Babbity Bowster's is a three-storey, five-bay house located at 18 Blackfriars Street in Glasgow, likely designed by Robert and John Adam and built around 1790. The building was restored between 1984 and 1986 and is currently a public house. The polished painted ashlar frontage features a tripartite doorpiece with engaged Tuscan columns that support an entablature and a balustraded parapet. The ground floor has full-height shop windows with small pane glazing, which are flanked by panelled pilasters. On the first and second floors, there is a blind window in the centre bay flanked by two single lights, all of which are sash and case windows with 12-pane glazing. A band course runs above the ground floor and at the cills of the first and second floors. The building is topped with a simple pediment that includes a central blind oculus.
