57, 59, 61 Cathkin Road, Langside, Glasgow

This is a later 19th century villa located at 57, 59, and 61 Cathkin Road in Langside, Glasgow, which shows the influence of architect Alexander Thomson. The building is constructed from snecked and squared rubble with ashlar dressings and features some oversized nail-head detailing. It has a two-storey, three-bay front with a centrally located gable that has fret-worked barge-boarding. The left bay contains a deeply projecting, flat-roofed porch that is painted and recessed. The other bays feature ground floor bipartite windows with distinctive lugged architraves, while the first floor has round-arched single windows with channelled voussoirs. There is a continuous band course at the impost level, and the windows are fitted with plate glass sashes. To the right, there is a low wing, and the building has broad-eaved roofs that are slated, although some chimney stacks have been cut down. The same architectural details are repeated on the flanks of the villa. Additionally, there is a stepped boundary wall along the street, complemented by painted gatepiers.
