Description
This building, located at 161 Nithsdale Road in Glasgow, is a synagogue that dates back to around 1878. It is designed in a Thomsonesque Greek style and features a symmetrical front with twin pediments. The facade includes two low windows with five lights each and a central pediment. The ground floor has a porch supported by Ionic columns, a recessed central window, and tripartite windows above the bows, which are flanked by tapered capitals that frame recessed areas containing acroters. The basement has a battered design. The building is faced with ashlar stone, while the flanks and rear are made of snecked rubble. It was converted into a synagogue, during which the steps were removed and a new side porch with bronze doors was added in 1928.
