Description

Cleveden Court Hotel, located at 61 Cleveden Drive in Kelvinside, Glasgow, was designed by architect John Burnet Snr in 1876. It is one of a pair of symmetrical terminal pavilions, with the other located at 2-15 Cleveden Crescent. Both buildings share similar architectural details.

The hotel features two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a total of seven bays. It has two prominent square bay windows with bipartite sashes that rise to a large segmentally pedimented attic. The bay windows are accentuated by clasping pilasters at the first-floor angles and are corniced over both the ground and first floors. The remaining windows are single sashes with plate glass glazing, while the basement windows have four-pane glazing. Continuous string courses run at the first-floor cills and over the lintels, and there is a plain main cornice along with a die and balustrade parapet. The roof is slate, featuring tunnel dormers and tall corniced axial stacks.

On the west side, there is a two-bay flank with steep flights of steps leading to a porch supported by rusticated pillars. The porch has a tripartite doorpiece with glazed sidelights and is topped with a balustraded parapet, which has pedestals that support urns. The remaining windows are single-light and detailed similarly to the others. At the wallhead, there are tall corniced stacks and a flank pedimented bipartite attic.

The property is enclosed by coursed ashlar boundary and retaining walls that have polished coping. There are pairs of gatepiers that are rusticated at the base and polished at the top section, with additional gatepiers also located at Cleveden Crescent Lane.
