Description

1 Cleveden Crescent in Kelvinside, Glasgow, is a building designed by architect John Burnet Snr in 1876. It is one of a pair of symmetrical terminal pavilions that complement the buildings at 2-15 Cleveden Crescent and the other pavilion at 61 Cleveden Drive, all featuring similar architectural details.

The building has two storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a total of seven bays. It features two prominent square bay windows with bipartite sashes that rise to a large segmentally pedimented attic. The bay windows are accentuated by clasping pilasters at the first-floor angles and are corniced over both the ground and first floors. The remaining windows are single sashes with plate glass glazing, while the basement windows have four-pane glazing. Continuous string courses run along the first-floor cills and above the lintels, and there is a plain main cornice topped with a die and balustrade parapet. The roof is slate-covered and includes tunnel dormers and tall corniced axial stacks.

To the east, there is a three-bay flank. A steep flight of steps leads to the porch, which is supported by rusticated pillars. The porch features a tripartite doorpiece with glazed sidelights and a balustraded parapet, adorned with pedestals that support urns. The other windows in this section are single-light and detailed similarly to those mentioned earlier. At the wallhead, there are tall corniced stacks and a flank pedimented bipartite attic.

The property is enclosed by coursed ashlar boundary and retaining walls that have polished coping. There are pairs of gatepiers, which are rusticated at the base and polished at the top section, as well as additional gatepiers leading to Cleveden Crescent Lane.
