Description

7 Halketshall in Limekilns is a house dating from the early 18th or 17th century, with later alterations. It is a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay structure that was originally a single-storey cottage, finished with cream harling and featuring painted surrounds around its openings.

On the south elevation, there is a central panelled door with a two-pane fanlight above it, flanked by windows. The first floor has three windows centered above the door. The west elevation has a narrow curtain wall to the south, separating it from the adjacent house at 8 Halketshall, and a rubble gable wall. The pitch of the former single-storey cottage wallhead is visible and slightly advanced.

The north elevation is made of rubble and developed in two stages. The lower section, which is slightly advanced, represents the former single-storey cottage elevation, while the later first-floor level is above it. There are later stone steps at the first floor that lead up to the higher ground level to the north, with a later tile-hung covering. This elevation includes a door to the north and a window to the east, with an advanced first-floor section to the right of the steps and modern rooflights.

The east elevation features a plain gable with a narrow single-storey monopitch shed attached, which has a timber boarded door. The house has centrally hung tilting twelve-pane timber replacement windows, a pitched roof covered with grey slate laid in diminishing courses, raised skews, a west gable apex stack, and a stack stump to the east. The shed has a concrete pantile roof.

Inside, the interior was modernized in 1973. The entrance door opens directly onto a flight of steps. There are two rooms on the ground floor and two on the first floor. A door was inserted at the center rear of the first floor for access to external steps, which are now covered, revealing the great thickness of the external wall. The roof features collar rafters, with metal and wooden pins, and some roof timbers still have bark remains.
